I just got mine in today but with no instructions I know how to get them in and everything but wiring it I have no clue on.

The black box with the wires coming out of it I know the red wire goes to the headlight switch illumination, black gets grounded. But what about the "plugs" for the gauges, theres three off the gauges but six out of the black box.

Id like to have them come on with my headlights without fooling with that new switch so if anybody has any idea how these hook up Id appreciate it!

Thanks

Id say the 6 supply is a generic relay, just hook up the 3 leads and maybe use electrical tape to cap the 3 unused.

Where did you get those as I've been looking into the plain white overlays. Maybe show us some night time pictures when you get it installed.

Ill give it a shot, just go to eBay and search explorer white guages and theyll be in there the seller has like 6 so there is still more

the kit that i have had five or six pig tails coming out of the box, and the overlays only had 4. it is a generic box, nothing to wory about.

I installed a set on my explorer about 4 years ago. It's kind of a pain to do because you have to make sure the overlay lines up correctly so that some of the lights like the theft light, high beam light, emergency brake light, etc. show through the gauges correctly. Also make sure you DON'T remove the needles, just insert the holes over the tip of the needles and slide the overlays down. If you take the needles off the your gauge readings may be thrown off. Once you install them test the alignment before you put the dash back together or else you may have to rip it all back it to realign. Also the other plugs are just extras like everyone else said, use electrical tape to keep them from possible shorting on something like eXcali said. Oh and make sure you hook the red wire to your parking light switch and not just the headlight switch or else it won't come on when you just have your parking lights on. Good luck.

Here are some pics of mine...

Got it all in but no light lol. I taped off the three plugs that werent plugged in, can anyone confirm that the wire for illumination off the headlight switch is the white wire with black stripe?

I don't have a wire diagram but if you don't have one yet, this is a perfect reason to pickup a digital voltameter. I think they are like $20 at autozone.

It should be the black/white one or if you see a solid brown one try that.

I dont have a black/white just white/black but there is a solid brown. Ill have to try tomorrow its a little too dark now lol.

We're probably talking about the same wire, I just have it backwards. I think the brown one should do it though, it's the parking light wire.

I got them in and they were working, I grounded the black wire to the bolt that holds that metal piece in on the lower half of the paneling. Got it all back together turned on my lights and no light from the gauges, also no parking lights or tail lights. Only my headlights and foglights are coming on. Also the warning chime when your lights are on, car off, and door open isnt coming on. When I locked my Ex the headlights and foglights used to flash now they dont. Anyone have any idea?

I'm in the process of installing a line output converter for my amp right now so I'll check my wiring out while I'm out there and let you know exactly how I did it. Are you sure you didn't accidentally pull any wires out? Are you using wire taps or how did you tap into the brown wire?

I know for certain I didnt pull any out. I used the squeeze wire tap connectors, and tapped into the white/black. I grounded to the bolt holding up the metal. I checked everything and it all was working until I got everything back together now its all messed up.

I did notice fuse 30 which is park lamp was blown Im gonna get some new fuses and check them, yet thats the only fuse blown so it doesnt explain the tail lights and warning chime. as well as the new gauges.

if you can hang on till tomorrow, i will rip my dash apart and tell you how i wired it, and snap a few shots as well. cant do it right now, its raining small farm animals!

I just checked mine, I tapped into the White/Black wire also and grounded it to a miscellaneous bolt in the dash so it sounds like you did it the same way. I think the White/Black wire is the parking light wire and the brake lights run on the same circuit so I'm thinking if you replace the fuse it should take care of the gauges/parking/brake lights and maybe the door chime is also on that circuit. Replace the fuse and update us....

Wow I feel stupid lol, all fuses inside the truck were good and I totally forgot about the ones under the hood. Fuse 11 parklamp and main headlight switch did the trick. You were right the guages, parking, tail lights, and chime are all tied into that.

Good to hear you got it going , post some pics of the new gauges.

Im getting some red wedge leds for the needles and a shift indicator from an 01 sport for the white face indicator so the P RND21 light up red. Soon all my interior lighting will be matching blue!

Thanks again for the help guys!
