Has anyone managed to get a 8" driver in their door on an 06 explorer?

The factory opening is set up for a 6x8 speaker. But I'm trying to create a 3 way setup for the front door. I'm going to use a pair of 5 1/4" MB Quarts plus a larger speaker to get a 3 way setup.

Thanks,

Roveer

I'm putting my 8" midbasses in kickpanels, but as long as you do a little trimming and fitting, and the mid is shallow, they can probably be put in the doors without too much work. Now if you go into doing a fiberglass pod you're in for a bit more work.

3 way as in 3 different components, midbass/woofer, midrange and a tweeter, separates. Not a coaxial.

Like mine, 8 inch woofers, 5 1/4 mids, 1 inch tweets. That was the RS comp set, now in the rear doors, I have the SS comps up front now.

build a custom console for a downfiring 10", then you still have all your space left run a 6.5" component set- or better yet some 6.5" mids and horns...

i've done a few consoles for the newer fords such that you can't even tell there is a sub in there.

Did you get this done? How does it sound with it being a sub without a sealed enclosure?

Anyone else have any ideas..pics?

I have 2 jl 8w0's I want in my front doors. Have been schemeing for a couple months now...but haven't done anything definite. Would love to see some other people ideas.

That project is for my thanksgiving break, it's nice to be off work for 3 days straight!! I have all my 'glassin stuff ready, now just waiting for the time to do it :)

Thats my problem...time. Wife and kids keep me BUSY!
Let me know how it turns out....and pics!

Damn I wish I had the time and skill for that...

hmm- got money? lol

Yeah, my free time is pretty much non-existant minus the wife and kids.. just girlfriend for now thank god!

I'm starting the project post black friday shopping tomorrow... 19" Widescreen Samsung Monitor for $129 calling my name, among other things.. :)

yeah, i'm looking at those too...

The f'n line was sooo @#$*ing long at 430am... freaking ppl camped out there. You woulda thought they got a shipment of 30 PS3's in the way it was filled up! It wrapped around the building almost the whole way, where I was I could see the end of the line come 5am, and the people at the back I'm sure could see the entrance... So no good deals for this guy :( well except a couple movies, and gifts.

X-mas time isn't for me anyways :)

I would rather pay the extra money than have to deal with some of those knuckleheads, cuz I would sure pay the money anyways after having to hire a lawyer when I killed someone.
