I am most likely going to go with 2 15" subs, and a friend of mine told me that a great idea is to put the subs in a box, and have the box on little like stands i guess, or just some kind of support, and have the subs facing down. He said he had heard it before and it was incredible. Any input??

That type of setup is for cars that don't have very good resonance, Like Jeep Wranglers. It's small, & most of the time the top is down. Originally in my friends Jeep we had the back seat removed and 3 10" subs facing upwards. When the soft top was on it would make it pulse up and down like when you were going 100 mph. Without the top on, you couldn't really feel the bass, or hear it for that matter. So we bought some JL's and did the setup your talking about. It makes the bass radiate through out the whole car. The Sound quality isn't great though. My guess is if you did this in your X you would get a lot of unwanted vibration.
Just my 2 cents

That is exactly the setup these guys at a local car stereo shop told me they'd do if I'd take the car to them too. These guys have been in featured in Car Audio mags too, every once in a while. They said they had the best luck facing them down, with a the front (facing the front of the car) and sides used as walls to stand the box up, with the subs facing down, so I guess the bass escapes bottom rear. Haven't really heard anyone with that though.

you might find a bandpass

more to your liking... i've found with just a single ten.. loaded against the side of the truck or rear.. works real well.. and great tone..

just a thought :)

one or two 12's facing up or to the rear will sound fine. bandpass is for spl and will result in a horrible loss in sound quality. go with a sealed box for best sound.

hmmm...i got an 15" single facing up...

in an little tiny box...( that space where the box goes up in height besides the speaker ?...you can draw a line straight down..that's also the side of the sub box) i got about 1" clearance on the sides and about 2" clearance from the basket/magnet on the bottom.

Your Box calculation is critical in making the sounds, ofcourse this couples with the sort of music you listen to...i myelf listen to all kinds of music so i decided to go with an small box....get this . an smaller box will create more back pressure on the speaker or suction depending on the motion of the speaker, this will make the speaker act like it's tighter then it is, an bigger box will make it sound looser and is guaranteed to bottom out your speaker if enough power is fed to it....

However you have to be carefull steering power to an sub in an small box, if you put too much power in the speaker (and remeber the speaker doesn't bottom out) it will burn the voice coil in a hurry, the box will react as an break for the speaker once it gets an certain amount of vacuum/pressure behind the speaker it will try to slow the speaker down if you feed more power into the speaker at that time the voice coil will get hot where the box will stop it ....do i make any sense here ?
