I have a 2014 FPIU. I have been trying to turn off the dark car mode to configure remote keys for my explorer. I am trying to search for the BCM (AS BUILT format) but i couldn't find it. I am pretty much new to it. So i couldn't figure it out and came here for help.

Details:
2014 Ford Explorer Interceptor Utility
FORScan 2.3.65
ELM327 USB Adapter OBD2 Scanner

What i am trying to do: Turn off Dark Car Mode and Program a remote key/keyless entry.

The answer to your question is: yes, many people have.

My '16 is different, and I used the non-as-built format because it's easier. Did you look there (after saving each of your as-builts)?

Hi Steve. Yes, I have took a backup for all the as-built files before messing things around. I believe the dark car mode/keyless entry will be under the BCM category. I am not able to see them under other configurations (PCM, APIM, FCDIM, HVAC, GPSM). Yeah, I know it wouldn’t be there, just wanted to check—just in case. It’s not. I have looked up online for the as-built manual, yet i could not find (726-12-01 and 726-08-01).

Any setting can theoretically be controlled by parameters in several modules. So even if you find "dark car" (or whatever you might be looking for) in one module, you should still check the other modules.

Maybe someone with an older PIU will post a reply this weekend.

ELM327 USB Adapter OBD2 Scanner
That's your problem. The actual company that made ELM327 chips went defunct many years ago, and anything you see advertised as an "ELM327" these days is a counterfeit clone. The fake products support just enough of the OBDII protocols to do basic standard DTC check and reset functions. However, they typically lack the capability to connect to many of the vehicle communication busses and modules. Get an adapter recommended by the FORScan team (I use the Vgate Vlinker FS on my 18 FPIU) and you won't have this issue.

Yup that is what i suspect too. I bought this OBDLink EX on amazon. It should be arriving on monday. Should see what happens. Hope it works. Thank you.

April 20 2025 Update: I was able to turn off the dark car mode and configure the fob.

You're not gonna say how, or with what equipment? Help the next person - pay it forward.
