Ex was in for creaky front suspension, exhaust TSB as well as transmission bump TSB. After everything had been done, they decided to update my Sync to the latest and greatest version. Well, it appears that they got the black screen of death half way through. They are now replacing the API module. Anyone know:

1. What it does?
2. Should I be worried? MFT had been working ok since the Feb 2012 update. Couple of freeze ups but nothing like before.
3. Should I be happy to now have a 2013 API module?

Any help would be appreciated.

The APIM module is the brain behind the myford touch system. I'm not aware of any 2013 module that would be any different than what you had before. I'm on my 3rd APIM module and honestly, it's not made any difference. The problems are primarily software based.

I assume that they were going to update you to 3.5.1. Some people were "required" to have the APIM module replaced prior to the 3.5.1 update.

I don't think you'll be any worse off than you were before. But then again, you're talking about myford touch. Your new friend will love that it's being replaced :)

According to my service tech, the part number for the APIM module changed. Waited 3 days for it to arrive. His claim was that it was the new and improved version, hence the new part number. I'll post part numbers when car is picked up.

May paperwork said the following:

Perform recall 12M01B replace APIM (no part numbers listed for APIM, however I can go into the diagnostic screen and get the part number of the one installed)

1201101A perform TSB 12-11-01 reprogram nav and sync

part # DM5Z 19H449 AA (new A4 Nav card)

And again, still tons of problems. Hope you have better luck.

Picked up Ex yesterday. Paperwork says:

Perform open campaign 12A04 Sync update. During reprogram APIM unresponsive. Power and ground to APIM tested good. Replace APIM and reprogram. Install SD card A4.

1 - DM5Z - 19H449 - AA Card - ME
1 - BT4Z - 14D212 - BB Unit - CE

Hows it working thus far? Actually, give it about a week or two, then tell us how its working :)

The new APIM is like good ethnic food. Enjoy it, don't ask what goes into it, and try not to worry about what it will do to you in two days.

Seriously though, mine was replaced a while back and has been great. Even the MFT has been acceptable. Okay, I did go hoarse a bit the other day from yelling at it, but I was in a bad mood... Okay, I've pretty much quit trying to do anything with MFT, like make a phone call... But the temperature controls work, the backup camera is fantastic, and I can change radio stations. Hmmm. I could do all of those things without MFT, and 2/3 of them with knobs on my '77 Pontiac.
