been trying to talk my buddy out of this truck for Years, he finally caved, and decided to just give it to me!!

the good:
4.0
4x4
extended cab
straight body hardly any rust

the bad:
slight misfire
tires are worn out
interior is pretty dirty
and 3 of the 4 rear leaf spring shackles are broken off.

but for free, who can complain right?

soon as i get the shackles and misfire fixed i plan on a 4in rough country suspension lift and a set of 33 inch tires, just for a little attitude.

going to be a winter vehicle/boat hauler/DD so i can keep the miles down on my stang.

pic of the what has been codenamed "Danger Ranger"

did i mention the spot on the hood? buddy had an obsession with bass, pumped so much wattage he fried the alternator... literally, started it on fire lol

the bad shackle

im going to just replace all four shackles, can get them shipped from rockauto.com for 80 bucks

what do you guys think? have i got a decent start here?

Yeah, all new shackles would be good. Bushings look shot too so while you're at it I'd buy an Energy Suspension poly bushing kit for the whole truck, and put it on as you replace things.

I'd skip the 4" lift and 33's though. Maybe a 1-2" lift and 31's or something.

33's would require 4.10/4.56 gears, and gears are a lot of money. If you want to keep it cheap and a low-key DD, it'd be better to work with what you have. 33's would also suck more gas.

The big plus with the 4.0 Rangers is how much pep they have due the the power-to-weight ratio, adding bigger tires without the gears really hurts that. Lifted trucks also don't do as well with towing.

Great starter truck, but I'd suggest fixing up all the functional stuff first, and waiting on lift kits and big tires. I'd say the minor 1-2" lift and 31's would be the way to go, you'd save money and it'd be a better DD/hauler if that's what you plan to use it for.

Good Start I'd say , And I'm With Anime on the Suspension and the lift idea .
