When we bought our ex I found it had a broken interior door handle. Ok no problem i'll get one from the pick n pull. I didnt get it til the end of the day and was havin a hard time breathing from my asthma and so without thinking I got another handle without testing it. Got it home and installed it to find out this ones broken too :shoot:. So is this a big problem or do I just have ****ty luck.

The correct handles for a first gen are sold in the 'HELP' section of Autozone and Advance and are cheap. Check and see if they have the ones for a second gen, or are they the same???

I've had a first gen and two second gens. The first gen had no problem but the second gens I've gone through several. It's an awkwardly designed handle and you have to be careful with it when you open it. I just buy new ones off ebay, they're pretty cheap. At least they are easy to swap!

Yes very easy to swap :D. They're almost the same as the fox body mustangs (i'll post some comparison pics later) but the mustangs ones dont break. Good thing is the JY will take them back so it saves me $7 and its not a wasted trip cause I still need a grill and headlight for the ex.

yeah... the second gen interior door handles do like to break... i have found replacements at both auto zone and pep boys... around $10 at either

I bet my advance doesnt have them. Or if they do they only have right hand ones . I'll check later today cause the door panel has been off for like 3 weeks now and it really sucks.

i have found that when one store by me has one side, the other store usually has the other for some reason

Well I got a handle yesterday for $10.80 so that wasnt bad. Have it installed but I lost some of the screws so I gotta look for them so I can put the panel back on.

Yep sorry but the handles break with regularity. ;)

people break my back seat ones all the time. i don't understand it. when it stops they just keep pulling instead of trying again...

I had to replace both of mine. However, I bought mine from O'Reilly and the left handle was $9.00 and the right handle was $11.00. None of us could figure out why. Also, they had the right handle in stock (maybe it breaks more) and the left handle had to be ordered.

On my 2000 Explorer, I just changed both interior door handles on the left side as well as the lock accuator on the drivers door. The actuator still isn't working as I want it to so I'm going to load it up with graphite grease and see if that helps. Last time I changed them I changed the right rear and it still won't open from the inside, so I'm gonna grease it too.

Don't know what else to do.

Any other suggestions out there?

Bothe were $10 dollars and change from Advance Auto. The accuator was $32.00

Yeah thats what I figured happened to this cause it still doesnt open right. Im just gonna have to watch it until I can get a new lock mechanism.

I got the same problem with the rear doors on my 97 explorer. My friends all climb in the back and can't get back out. At first i thought it was the child locks till i turned them off and the problem continued.

Darn plastic parts.....
