I have a 98 Explorer Sport with the 4.0 SOHC. They replaced my tensioners a year or two ago (I think just the front ones). Now at idle you can hear what sounds like a chain dragging. When I hit the gas (radio and a/c off) you can hear a rattling type sound (pretty similar to that draggin sound, just alot faster). I have heard detonation and piston slap before, thats not what I'm hearing under acceleration. Is this my tensioners going bad? Also it seems to be coming more from the back of the engine.

I'm debating on getting it checked out here or waiting until I go back to Orlando in a little over a week. My buddy had his engine/tranny etc replaced in his stang and they did an AWFUL job. I've only heard bad things about the dealers around West Palm Beach. I dont think I want them pulling my engine to replace those back tensioners.
