So I'm going to replace my thermostat housing I believe to fix a little problem I have with lodging a temp sender halfway in....

I checked Ford Parts Net for housing prices and for the V6 the cost is something like $8, but for the V8 the price is around $100 ($80 after savings). What I need is the whole unit which the themostat, ECT, and Temp sender all plug into. I don't want just the hood over the themostat which connects to the upper radiator hose. Is this the correct part, and is it really that cheap? Why so expensive for the V8 though? How much different are they?

Thanks,
Mike

I know that the V8 one is all aluminum. That's all I really know.
I also know that ford's computers listed the wrong t-stat housing for my 98, my housing ended up being listed for a 2000, go figure.

I got an e-mail from torrie from Ford Parts and he sent a diagram showing everything for the cooling system. I pin pointed what I needed and now am waiting for a response on how much it'll be. I went to Napa and Autozone and both had the temp sensors for the SOHC labeled wrong. I had to get one that was listed for a 99 rather than 98.

If you have to replace that whole plastic part that the thermostat is housed in it will be about $140 from the dealer. I had to replace mine when one of my tempeture sensors wouldn't come out and would just spin in place. This caused a slight leak from the plastic housing. The nice part is that the new housing comes with a new thermostat already in place.

That's both encouraging and discouraging. I like the idea of the thermostat with it, and that I know that I'm not alone on this. But the leak and the price are not what I want to have to pay. I got an e-mail back from Fordparts and I got a quote of $114. Better than the $140, but I really had my heart set on an Apten chip and shackles. I'm going to keep my eye on it for a while, but so far no leaks that I noticed and the sensor works. I'm probably going to check over at the salvage yard and see what I can pick one up for. I've got a price in my mind of about $30-40 that I'd like to pay, but of course I'll fork over whatever if I absolutely have to get it.

Edit: Is there a specific name for that part? I've been calling it the thermostat housing....is that right? Or what are the different parts called?
