I broke off the arm rest in my 99 explorer sport and Ford wanted $267 for a new one so I am going to try some salvage yards first. I just need to know what years use the same arm rest as the 99. Thanks.

Im assuming you mean the arm rest on the center console? If its just the arm, then it should be the same like Richard said. If its the whole console, there are some differences. Some go all the way to the dash, others do not. I dont know what the years difference would be though. Mines a 95 and it doesnt go to the dash, but I looked at a 99 and it did.

DAMN! Mine goes all the way to the dash, and I just took it out a few months ago....then I threw it away... :fire:

It housed the vents for the rear air, a 12v outlet on the pass side the cubbies and the kleenex holder(gay)... Do you need the whole thing? I can prolly find you one cheap around here, the 'yards are FULL of Expys and Mountaineers around here....

The little part that flips up should be easy to find, but most of the ones I have seen in the 'yards have some damage to the vinyl, they are easy to re-cover with whatever you want though.....a few screws and staples and youre there...

Good luck

I don't need the whole console, just the armrest and hinge piece. Thanks.

Check eBay; sometimes they are listed there.

Good luck ...

Solution for broken flip up armrest on center console

I also have a '99 Explorer sport. It seems that a lot of people have broken armrests on their center console. Specifically, this is the flip up armrest, with the cup holders for the back seat. The plastic underframe just can't handle the load. I did find this solution on the web... http://www.rockauto.com/ref/Heritage/armrest.htm

Otherwise, you can pick a OEM replacement from a parts truck on ebay, but this will be plastic and will probably break again.

I recall one post saying to put a tennis ball or some other type of reinforcement under the front of the armrest, to relieve the stress on the plastic.

my 98 armrest was broke when i bought my truck, i got a another one out of a 94 explorer. fit perfect...
