at what speed does your truck get "the shakes?"

sounds like a bad alignment too. Mine won't shake up to about 85, haven't had it faster than that.....yet ;) my old Chevelle was smooth all the way to ~120 and my 6000 was good to 115 before I put some cheap ass wal-mart tires on it. seems that they don't carry round tires, just sort of oblong.

yes...static is not the best way to balance...actually it only balances one side rater than a 2 sided dynamic balance..... the best balance is clamp/hammer on weights on both sides of the rim....

well, i just got off the phone with the guy from the alignment shop (basically all they do there is suspensions), and he said that hes almost positive that its a wheel balance thing, since it does it all the time at the same speed. the place that i bought my wheels from mounted and balanced my wheels and tires for me, but they used the stick on weights, the guy at the alignment shop said hes gonna get rid of them and put on some clamp on weights (those stick ons suck.) just for piece of mind, i asked him if he could just take a look at everything else and if something looks suspicious, check it out, and he said that he would, at no charge, unless he finds something (he shouldnt find anything though, since it was just inspected last week, but just in case.)

and mrboyle, yeah, ford says they re-aligned it, but maybe they didnt, or maybe they didnt do it right; because of my wheel and tire setup, the alignment machine needs a different little adapter thingy to do it right. i dont trust ford anyway (service writers or technicians.)

thanks everyone for the input.

i get the shakes too 65-70 mph .. above 70 its just kinda "floating" i guess you could call it.. it doesnt really feel steady but at least it doesnt shake. i have goodyear workhorses on it and ive had 2 different suspensions put on it by ford themselves (2 different cities too). It still shakes. front psi is 35 and rear is 40. I kinda think it might be a balancing problem but i have no idea. What should I do? Take it somewhere?

tbomb, as for Ford's alignment, they (or Goodyear) never did mine right. I was going through tires every 20k miles. I finally started going to an independent shop (actually a franchised Exxon) and they're alignment has stuck like superglue. Lifetime warranty, so if it gets messed up in AZ or UT, I get new tires

did the realignment fix your problem?

my 94 x w/136K 30% tire left shook real bad at 60, I thought it was an accumulation of brake and rotor dust build up because I had to wate so long for my rotors to come in. so I took my wheels off and cleaned them inside and out. the shake was less but still there. I then took them in to be rotated and balanced, the shop said the tires were no longer rated for my truck (pre Firestone)and they couldn't work on them. thus I had the tires replaced and the shop found one that had a split belt. now everything runs smooth.
