Does anyone know if ATSG manuals are good? Are they detailed enough to guide one through a first-time rebuild of a tranny? And, how do they compare to the Ford factory manuals (if any exist)?

Thanks,

They are pretty good. I've found some mistakes in one of them on the A4LD, but the Ford 3 ring binder pretty much has everything. I would recommend the regular ATSG manual, the update manual, and the Ford manual.

you can search the forum, glacier might have a diary/walkthrough on rebuilding your tranny.

Glacier991 has both a regular diary, and a valve body rebuild diary on the A4LD. Brain has Project Frankentranny which discusses the use of 5R55E parts to strengthen the A4LD. I have other information on the A4LD in my list of useful threads.
