IM throwing around the idea of making a supercharger kit for all 5.0 explorers want to get a feel for how many people would be interested in it .. The price would be A LOT cheeper then EE's $3400...IM thinking around $2600-2800 range.this would be using a Kenne-Bell compressor. I have talked to them about doing something if enough people are interested...email me or reply to this thread if interested...

kit would include:
S/C, all brackets. Pulleys etc.
FMU and lines to hook it up
bypass valve if needed and cost is low.
boost a pump<<==this is a maybe
t-tex pump if needed..<== this would not use the boost a pump..

Looking to have around 8#'s of boost and close to 100+hp from it ..
IM going to do the kit on my own truck 1st to see if any problems will come up....

Sounds interesting. Good luck and keep us posted

hook us ohv's up with one also, that'd be awesome, i'd totally be interested

I'd definitely be interested, just need to find the money. What are the differences between the Twin-Screw and the typical Roots-Type blowers. Just wondering.

superheater

The kenne-bell blower is a giant heater you strap to the top of the engine. I have done testing on mustangs with blowers. We put a kenne-bell blower on a 95 5.0 mustang then we put a powerdyne blower on a 95 5.0 identical to the other one. They had all the same bolt on's on each car and the boost was the same. The powerdyne mustang ran circles around the one with the kenne-bell. It was not funny how much faster it was. We figured out the intake air temp was 75 degrees hotter on the kenne-bell mustang. This caused less power to be made.

I would never use the kenne-bell on any vechicle. I would get the powerdyne kit for the explorers. It is really nice and not too expensive. If you want alot of power powerdyne makes a race blower now that will fit all their brakets. Since they don't make a Vortech kit for the 5.0 explorers I would definitely use the powerdyne kit because I used it and loved it.

Troll

troll:when i called powerdyne and asked if the new gear driven compressor would fit they said no..so i left it at that..there is no way im buying a POS powerdyne w/ the belt drive just so it will blow up in a few months..they even said its not advisable to run the 9# pulley .. what a joke... as for the heat build up . im looking into the by-pass for this exact reason, and i will be using water injection on my truck for some added resistance to detonation.ANY motor with heat soak will lose a good deal of power.. the trick is to keep the motor as cool as possible to avoid problems.I notice a HUGE difference in my cobra when im driving on a 90+ day and the motor is running hotter then normal..

we ran the power dyne with the smallest pulley they make for over two years and made 300 rear wheel with a stock motor. we all so never broke a single blower in the entire time we had a powerdyne. they have a bad rap but most of the cars i have seen break them are mustangs that rev fast and vilently dump the cluth. They spin them past the max revs of the blower. I am sorry they advertise that the new blower fits all existing brakets. If they lied it is not our fault. You probably will not break that blower because if I could not break it you are not likly to. If you like the kenne-bell so much explain to me why the fast mustangs use the centrifical blowers not the roots type blowers.

blk mrk8:as for the PD. i don't know why they would tell me if wouldn't fit...i guess they just really don't want to sell any kits.. like i said, i "would" do it if they offered the newer head unit w/ the kit...i am not dead set on the kenne-bell. IM just working with what i can get to fit..as for mustangs VS. explorers...i have been using vortech blower for close to 5 years now so IM not new to this game like you think i am..look below for my #'s on my car... but i never said the kenne-bell is the fastest. i know 100% that its not..on the flip side they make great low RPM boost #'s.. and that "would" be better to move a 2 and a half ton SUV.. remember.. no body except troll bought their suv to race.. if they wanted to race they would have bought a mustang ETC.all IM looking for is making my X a little more fun to drive... that's it.. no i don't want to make 500rwhp w/ a built everything like troll.. i have my cobra for that...don't you agree that making full boost at 2200 rpm would make for a fun explorer? as oppose to only making full boost only at redline?

powerdyne

I called Powerdyne today and they said they did not know if it would fit but they said it probably would. They said they refuse to say if it would fit until someone brought them an explorer to test it on. Somebody should take their truck to them to test it on. They said it fits on all the mustang brakets. The only car so far that it does not fit is the 5.7 liter Suburban kits. I would not give up yet until they give me a definite answer.
Troll

troll: thanks for calling them up and trying to see whats going on.. as for their answer.. dosent it seem kinda funny that the company that makes the kit AND the head unit dont even know if its cross compatible? makes you think..... the tech guys over there really need to get their $hit together...

me and troll share a 1000 hp mustang that is why we build up such fast normal looking daily drivers. that is why i have a built 4.6 dohc motor with a novi as my daily driver and he runs a really sick explorer as his.
