Audio install complete

Being that the topic has gone to soundproofing, I though I might add some. I just finished sound insulating my Explorer yesterday. I also used Ice and Water Guard. So far I have used about 140 square feet and I have not done the hatch yet. This stuff is awesome. My Explorer Is so quiet now I cant ever hear my tires (which before were very loud). Not to mentionit sounds like I have a band in the back seat. I reccomend it to everyone. It was $90 for 225 sq ft! It is pretty mush identical to Dynamat except the aluminum backing. It was called "Grace Ice and Water Guard".

very good install man! You did a great job on the dynamating of the door. Just curious did you use a roller to put the dynamat on? If not I would advise to do it. It will really get that stuff to stick good otherwise it will come up later. You have components all the way around where did you mount your rear doors tweeters?

That setup is tiiight! I like the wood dash tri, dude, and the audio setup looks very clean...nice job man. I too am going to hook my X up with a bigtime audio upgrade this year (once I get money!)

I think the next thing you might wanna look into is some rims! But this replacement for dynamatting everyone speaks of will definitely be something I will keep in mind.

Lookin good bro!

Thanks....Yes, I used a roller for the Dynamat. Alot of dips and curves. Where I could not roll with the roller I used a towel and just pushed it all to stick with my hand. Tweeters for the rear are mounted right above the factory grill....I have at least one pic that shows the tweet

Very nice lookin eX! What are your future plans?

Yes...rims would be great!! Unfortunately, gotta wait on that:( ...lack of$$$$$$$....lol. Hopefully nexy years tax return will help me take care of that.

Hey Rscotts....

I was just wondering where you got the box for your X. Im assuming you made it personally right? Cause it looks to fit perfect. Id love to get one!

iugoodfella, yeah I made the box myself. The first part of the box consist's of a floor (3/4" MDF 5" deeper than sub box) which spans the entire width of the cargo floor area . This is screwed down with angle brackets. Onto this I mounted the actual Sub box (dimensions of the Sub box are actually smaller than the overall width of the amp rack). There is approx 6" on either side of Sub box and 5" at the front/bottom when mounted on the wood floor to be able to reach in to the wiring. The top of the Sub box is pretty much the same dimensions as the wood floor (except 5" less in depth than floor) this is mounted directly ontop of the Sub box.
The amp rack, (I tried to carefully scribe all the contours of the interior), is then mounted, at a slight angle, to the front leading edges of the top and bottom (leaves room to route wiring). Had a couple of little screw-ups in scribing the contour....some spots did not fit up perfectly, but other than that it turned out pretty well.
The sub box is 3/4" MDF (sealed) at approx 1.45 square ft of air space for each Sub.

System install/future plans

A good alarm is top priority right now. Will get that done in the next couple of weeks hopefully!! Next on the list will be purchasing a couple of caps for the sounds. Would luv to get new rims...possibly 17 or 18"...but that will have to wait. Am going to get all of the bumpers (grey plastic) painted same as body color someday as well.
