I've never heard of Audiobahn brand name except for on this forum. I think I've permenantly destroyed my 12" fosgate sub and am looking to replace it and the Audiobahn seems to be interesting. I'm looking for something that can boom but still have good SQ. I currently have a sealed box built to the exact specs for the fosgat sub and I also have a bandpass box that I could put the new one in. What are your opinions on these subs? Which is the best for sound quality? Will one be okay in either of the boxes I have? I live in San Diego, does anyone know where I can pick one up around here or in Orange county? If not who has the best prices? By the way my amp is a classic punch 100, 2 channel, you know the old black one with the large cooling fins and the cast metal end caps that used to be hand made and assembeled in the USA. The spec sheet from 1996 when I bought it says it's output power is 225watts/channel I'm not sure if this is RMS or Max but I run it bridged. The Output voltage was tested as 21.2 Volts RMS. The test was run at 2 ohms. Hopefully this is enough info for you guys to suggest an appropriate sub. I'm looking for something to hit hard on a rock drum beat and rumble with the occasional rap.

Thanks

I have personally never heard an audiobahn but I know this a fairly well respected subs, go for it and give it a try, your AMP is kinda small though....

Audiobahn has great subwoofers. they have about 10 different lines of subs for different applications (sq/spl) and price ranges.

i had a AW1205X (12"), it was amazing. in a 2.85cuft ported enclosure, it hit harder than the four 15"orions that i have now.
but it handles 1000w rms so it's not ideal for your amp.

if your amp puts out 225X2@2ohms, then it is probably 450mono@4ohms. anyone know it is probably peak since you ran a punch series 12" (they handle 100w rms, unless if it is a very old punch sub, then it handles more).

the AWP212X is probably your best bet (450w rms, svc, very high sensitivity 94db) they are the flat compression piston design and look cool.

also the AW120XS is a good sub for you too (500w rms, svc, very high sensitivity 93db) they are high excursion subs.

there are lots more, but i dont want to take up the whole page with one post. check out www.audiobahninc.com for the specs on all models. i dont know Cali, so i cant help you out there, but there are lots of sites on the internet selling audiobahn. shop around, you could probably find those subs for under $100 if you find the right site. good luck, and let us know what you get.

There is no way a Punch 100 puts out 450 watts @ 4 ohms. I would say more like 200 watts RMS bridged mono @ 4ohms.

Your bandpass box will give you plenty of boom, but no SQ. A sealed box would give you the best of both SPL/SQ.

mrsteve is right, the bandpass wont give very good sound quality. use a good sealed or ported box.

My punch amp and the punch Sub are both old school. I looked at my reciepts and even found a fosgate catalogue that was tucked away with them. They are both 1996 model year. I can't say that I didn't get my money's worth out of that sub and the Amp is still putting out the power. I'm going to look into the AudioBahn subs and try to figure out if anyone around my area deals with them. I'll post what I'm thinking about before I spend to get some yeahs or neahs on it. Thanks for the help and advice.

go for it

I used to have 2 12s in a factory leather box. All i can say is within 3 months i had 2 sound pollution tickets and they knocked of my rearview 3 times. I had to sell them cause I

jeepeater

welcome to the site. so what system do you have now?

Thank you.

I wish i still had them truthfully. All I have now is factory mach audio. Im thinking about getting another set of audiobahn's but I really like the looks of the alpine Type-R sub. Has anyone has ever heard them? Check out ebay. You can find audiobahn's at pretty reasonable prices.

For good SQ and good BOOM go with th JL 12w6. My 1 sub sounds better than most peoples 2.

i like the alpine type-R subs. they sound really good. thye dont hit as hard as the audiobahn subs, but they are still good subs. much better than the type-S.
