Anyone have any experience with an aussie locker in a late model ex? Any reviews or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I was wondering the same thing. From what I have gathered lockers are the way to go. I just wanna know if Aussie is the best and if not, what is?

i have a aussie locker in the front of my truck, would have one in the rear too if they had them for the 9" back when i bought them. in the rear i have a lock rite locker which is what i'd have front and rear if i didn't get the aussie. from what i've read the aussie is a stronger unit than the lock rite. which is y i wish i had one in the rear too. very affordable locker. got mine for $250 shipped. same price as the lock rite only supposedly stronger. when it comes to affordable less expensive auto lockers aussie would be my choice. then would come the lock rite.

It's good to know that they can hold up even with the 38's you have. I'm only running 33's, so I should be fine. Thanks for the info.

Aussie locker

I just had the aussie locker installed in the front of my 01 sport with 4:88 gears front and rear. At the same time I had the new auborn ected diff installed, and boy is this thing smooth! The one thing you will here with the aussie unit is when you turn left or right is a slight noise in the front end, whice is normal for this type of diff. I have not had a chance to really use this setup yet, but a up coming trip to the rubicon in mid sept will give it a workout.I think this may be the only unit out right now for the front of the late dana 35. Auborn says they are coming out in 07 with a ected diff for the front, but we all know how that stuff seems to take forever.

i also have an 01 sport, what was the cost? and did you install yourself?

I just installed mine in the front before Crozet. Was the best thing I have ever done for my truck. My truck realy amazed me and the owner. He said he was suprised it did so well. On another note, they have the best customer service. I put in the order around 2 pm, and by 3:30 I had a tracking number. An hour and a half later! It was on a UPS truck that night!!!!! Mine was 260 shipped 2nd day air.

aussie install cost

I had the aussie locker, 4:88 gears front and rear with the auborn ected locker installed in the rear for 700.00 by a local shop.

Aussie Locker

Did you have to do a "brown wire mod" or anything else to the front end? How does it drive on the street? I'm thinking of front and rear Aussie's.

brown wire mod, aussie locker

No I did not do the brown wire mod, It drives almost like it did stock, only when you turn do you feel a slight change in the steering feel. I will try this set up out in three weeks on the rubicon,

locker

G'day , mate I know my truck is a little older a 9/99 xlt .I put the oz locker in my girl and mate it is a different truck .Where I live I've got steep hills and she now goes where my old landie would not look at .I still have stock lsd in the rear and that's not too bad ,yes I did do my own instal and there is a site in the forums showing you how to do it also I did the brown wire mod as a precausion against wind up especially when on the blacktop you can feel the strain through the wheel .Overall it is a great locker bearing in mind it is in operation when your wheels are straight to your rear wheels .ave a g'day

When mine was shipped, they actualy printed out the thread Foxy is refering to and put it in the box. Those guys are awsome.

Foxy,
Were you able to get yours local, or did you have to order it through torque masters over here?

Aussie locker

Josh, Mate I was able to get mine locally .The price you pay over there would be with the current exchange rate the same price I payed here so unfortunately being local did'nt help me without being biased they're a great locker

I just put an Aussie locker in the rear axle of my 98 sport

works awesome. so far and the install was easy.
you definatly now it's there.
be easy going round corners and you'll never chirp or notice anything.

oh yeah for offroad driving.. easily doubled my trucks abilities offroad.
besty thing i've bought for my Explorer

I guess I have an Aussie Locker. I got the first one in my front axle right now. (for the second gen that is).

And after a year its great to have it.

What ever happened to your SC install?

Weird thing... I have all the materials and traced and cut out most.. just stopped working on it after my front end and school got in the way..

Foxy, where did you get yours from, The Book I have only shows the Lock Right for over $600 for the Dana 35 hear in Australia.

I would have thought you could have got the Aussie Locker from the U.S for under AU$500 Shipped??

This and a 2” body lift is probably my next and final Mod if I keep the Truck, anything more and I will have Insurance Problems in the event of a smash (I am border line at the moment with 2.5” suspension and 1” on tyres)

The thing about an Explorer is even with a little over 3-inch of overall lift its still looks Low when compared to all the Cruisers and Patrols that are driving around down hear.

I would love to do the SOA on the back and the Super lift 4” inch on the front with 33’s and a Slant Body lift to even it all out, but to stay legal I would need to do the Emergency lain change test and full brake test. (No Insurance coverage when on the Emergency lain change test either so if it roles or crashes you get squat) so bugger that.

Cheers.

will the aussie locker fit in a lds carrier

no you need an open carrier to install an aussie locker($250.00).

only powertrax makes locker($460.00) that it can go into your limited slip carrier, but for you is cheaper to find an open carrier from a junk yard($30-60) and put the aussie locker on it.

let us know if you have more questions
