how much damage does it do if you drive with the hubs engaged...you can't stop in the middle of traffic to back up to disengage the hubs so what now??? just wait till you are clear to reverse

first of all you should of noticed they were engaged before going on to the high way and you are not suppose to go over 50 when they are on or you can damage a number of things

Your not supposed to go on the street at all with 4x4 engaged, unless there is snow or ice..

It won't hurt anything to drive with the hubs engaged (note that there's a difference between having the hubs engaged and being in 4WD). You may feel a little "heaviness" in the steering, a little noise from the front drivetrain, and your gas mileage may go down a little, but you won't hurt anything (unless you touch the 4H button to engage the t-case).

If it helps ease your mind, note that the later explorers don't have hubs to disengage; the front end spins their whole life.

thanks "mr" your a lot of help as always...I was using the 4x4 on snow on the back roads and then ran into good roads while in traffic so I disengaged the 4high but I knew the hubs where still engaged and I was concerned about that. The later explorers might be designed a little different to take the spinning their whole lives...thanks a bunch "mr"
