hey guys

new to this site owned my 4 door 94 xlt for about 3 years now the a4ld auto transmission has giving me nothing but headaches recently the rear planetery gear broke and destroyed everything inside after reading the threads on the fourm about swapping it with a m5od i decided thats the best way to go living in south africa i cant just go to the srcap yard and find the correct parts so through a local agent to imports american parts i got the following

pedal assembly
flywheel
clutch master
clutch fluid line
slave cylinder
clutch kit

being a mechanic im oviously doing the conversion myself so far i have installed the pedals, master cycl, clutch fluid line, removed all the auto kick down cables shifters ect ect. the manual 5 speed from our local ford ranger 4.0 4x4 will fit right in my transfere case bolts right up to it and the bolt pattern in the bell housing is exactle the same as well as the overall length. i have no doubt that it will work

the only thing im worried about is ive been reading the you have to swop the auto computer to a manual one do i have to do this or will the truck run with the auto one in it, do i need to modify the wiring in anyway or will it just start up i found when i removed that big plug at the fire wall when swopping the pedals there is a factory plug with the wires on th to fit on the switch on the clutch master cycl do i need connect that.

if anyone can share any info about this id really apreciate it

p.s would the cruise control still work

You will need to swap out the Automatic PCM for the Manual PCM or else you will get a check engine light. Or, you could get it reflashed if you want to keep the PCM you already have in your explorer. I have been want to put a MAnual trans in mine but not sure if the M5OD would handle the extra troque from the engine.

thanks for the reply, okay i will do that couldnt belive my luck after posting this message i looked on a local website and found a 93 manual explorer complete truck running and everything for R12,000 rand the only damage to it is he damaged the front suspension when hitting a pavement otherwise its perfect i would have to pay R10.000 just fopr a gearbox alone so now will have everything to complete the conversion so can swop out pcm and wiring harness and what ever else i need

PCM is usually behind the kick plate, passenger side, below the glove box, just in front of the door.
