I recently purchased an 91 EB. 19 000ish miles. Last month it started to drip trans fluid. Being recently purchased I went to an local trans shop for an snoop! Ouch on the bill. Figured an flush with new filter/ gasget wouldn't hurt so had it done with an oil change. The trans never seemed to be bad just leaking. Still leaks from the pasenger side beside the exhaust. Looks to be simple just need some direction. Whats there? No leaks elsewere.

This SUV was purchased for daily transportation an to pull the tent trailer or Mini to shows during the summer. Either weighs in at loaded with all our gear at 2400 ish lbs.

sounds like a servo cover seal leak.... good news is that it isn't all that serious, bad news is that is a ***** to get to to repair.... an OLD A4LD isn't the best for towing.. make sure you have an aux cooler on it... in front of the radiator.... I wish I was more positive on your choice.

Oh yeh. Put it in park block the wheels and poke your head under take a rag and wipe away the edge of the pan on that side. Watch just above the pan for a drip to form from the servo bore just under the front edge of the heat shield. I am going throught the same problem right now and it is a true test to fix it. $400.00 plus if a tranny shop does it due to what has to come out to get at it. Not fords best design.

Ok lets say it's the servo cover. I was told by an friend of an friend thing that it's 2 "o" rings. An drop of the exhaust system then an " simple c clip removed and the cover comes out. The shaft is like an inch long. Is this correct? If I do the work myself ( have more time than $$ ) is there any problems that may arise? Any 1 know what the ring size is?

With towing I kinda uderstand that this SUV wasn't the best choice. It does have the extra cooler and all. The prevoius owner had no problem pulling an 22 ft camping trailer. The way I figure it I'm pulling 1/2 the lenght and 1/3 or less in weight. I had previousely used an 4 l t AWD Areostar, and had no problems over 4 years of service. It even pulled the Mini to Memphis in fall of 2003 an 4 thousand km drive in 35 hours 1 way. Didn't even know I was pulling anything.

Thanks guy keep the ideas coming. Nugget if you get it done tell me how it turns out.

you can see the procedure with the trannie out of the car, and see the servo in the "My A4LD Rebuild Diary" in the useful threads section.
