Hello All, been a few years since I've posted - 8+ years.

I now have a 98 mercury mountineer, that I acquired for my daughter.

Auto locks use to work great. However, now it will only unlock, and I have to manaully lock all the doors.

I need the car to have an electric remote starter, so I guess this needs to be fixed.

where should I start?

by doing a search... lots of posts. IF none of the buttons in the vehicle lock the doors AND the remote(s) don't either, you likely have a locking relay issue which can be checked to see if it indeed is getting the appropriate ground and voltage to operate.... or you can "waste a bit money" and change out the relay with a little hope that it solves your problem.

Need more information - What does "manually lock all the doors" mean? Is it just the auto lock feature when you put it in gear not working? Do some/all of the lock buttons work? How about the remote? How about the keypad?

If like my '97 EB, the relays are all in a box behind the driver's side cargo compartment panel. If you remove the panel and look forward, you can see them.
