ok i just got a a pillar gauge along with a water temp and trans temp gauges made by autometer, how hard are these to install? any tips or easy ways

re

i put an autometer 2" t-fitting in the upper radiator hose for my water temp, and a brass t-fitting in the trans cooler rubber lines. the trans will run about 120-150 in the winter 150-180 in summer. not the best measuring point, but once you establish a "baseline" of whats normal and whats not, you can keep an eye on it and know if somethings wrong. The water temp runs a consistent 175-190 in the same conditions on the upper radiator hose.

ps. you will have to run a ground to the sender jacket for it to work properly, since it wont be grounded at the rubber measuring points.

thanks mace! i actually never thought of puttin them in the hoses, would it be better to put the t fitting for the trans gauge closest to tranny, but yet still in the hose

re

the upper radiator hose is a great place for that gage. no drilling, no dead OE gage... I have heard of people drilling the thermostat neck and all that. but the upper hose is leaving the engine; pretty accurate.

transmission: the best is, and some do this, is drill the trans pan, and mount the sender there for trans temp; i didnt want to drill. the trans cooler seemed like the easiest place for me. one hose is leaving the trans and one is returning. the first is a decent spot. you can get reasonably close to the trans with the cooler lines. no leaks, no drilling. not the exact temp in the trans, but remember the "baseline" theory. if its cooking in the trans, your gonna see it in the cooler lines.

i also put a oil pressure, and oil temp gage inline with an oil filter relocation kit. that also works real good. I got gages out the ying yang haha
