Availability of Maintenance Manuals with Hours

How many hours does Ford think that it takes to repair a Ford Explorer? When shops give you an estimate, they either use software or consult a manual which details the number of hours that various repair procedures should take.

I emailed Ford about the availability of such a manual, and got a marketing response thanking me for taking the time to contact Ford, and assuring me that they cared about my question, and that they would forward my inquiry to the appropriate person, and that they hoped I would drive safely so as to enjoy my "Ford Product" for many years to come, and that I should see my dealer soon for any help with repairs, and that my dealer could answer all of my questions, and sincerely hoped that I would have a nice day.

I could be mistaken, but I think you can find these at your local library. At least the central library in my town had them. And they're free to use!

What would you look for? I wouldn't know where to start.

You should be able to walk in and simply ask where they are and they can point them out. I doubt you'd be able to take them with you, but you can make copies of them all day long if you wish.
I think you would ask for something like what is described in the first post. It's just a large manual that gives approx hours to do certain jobs.

There are two major players in the auto collision repair business that have ripped vehicles apart and reassembled them to determine proper times. They are Mitchell International and Pathways. These are subscription services that provide shops and insurance companies with collision repair related info and updates on a monthly basis.

All body shops should have these references in book and cd-rom form. If you know anyone who is in the business, call them.

95% of the information in these books is collision related. It will have some times for removal and installation of some mechanial components, all suspension. very little electrical, all trim, all sheetmetal.
For mechanical repair/rebuild sort of stuff, will most likely need to look elsewhere.

I have seen Manufacturers Service manuals avail on ebay.

Thanks! I'll get the rock crawlers as soon as I get 35's, 5.5" lift and maybe a 2-3" body lift.

Now..where'd I put that big wad of money?!?
