Hi Guys,

Many thanks in advance for your advice...

I have a '96 XLT with A/C, but the compressor bailed out on me some months back and cause the drive belt to smoke. At that time it was suggested that I remove the plug that activates A/C for when the defogger is needed. That worked for a while, but now somewhere there is more noise coming (intermittenly). So I'm figuring the compressor pulley is going too.

I have heard that one can put on a belt made for non A/C trucks and avoid the compressor pulley altogether. Can anyone confirm this is possible ??

Thanks,
Richard :us:

The problem is that A/C was standard on the trucks, at least on my '97, according to the original sales brochure I have. I'm sure the '96 is the same way. Is the compressor frozen up? If not, just put the belt on it and don't turn the A/C on.

What engine do you have?

If you have the 4.0 OHV....there will definitley be a ac-less belt to use.....
