So I was using my Mountaineer 5.0 AWD to run over very tall thick brambles to expand my yard. I was backing into it since the rear bumper is metal. I was on a bit of an incline and I actually had trouble pulling out forward a few times. I then turned around and drove forward into the brambles in the same areas I almost got stuck and when I backed out it was like true four wheel drive. No spin at all.
Is something worn out or do these things just get way better traction in reverse?

It's probably just the way the the engine and transmission weight that sits on the front end and how you were using it. When it's nose up your trying to push the weight up the hill, when it's nose down the weight is all on the front tires to help apply traction.

That sounds about right but when I was going up hill forward my rear tires were spinning but my fronts were not.
