AWD front axle questions

A few questions about the front axle in a 97 AWD- A buddy who rebuilds axles and transmissions for a speed shop tells me I have a bad carrier bearing in the front differential. Is this unusual for 105k miles? I found a replacement locally in a yard, with 32k miles on it for $300. Is this reasonable? How long to replace? Are there CV shaft seals which should be renewed when replacing these?

my axle blew at 138K i found replacement with 45,000 for $300, a new take off for $600

You sure it isn't one of the CV's themselves? They seem to be prone to failure on a regular basis.
