AWD to Manual Control

I have a '98 XLT 5.0 AWD, I just had the radio bezel off to replace some backlights in the fog light switch and HVAC control and I noticed a plug going to a dummy receptacle where the 4x4 control would be ... Could i possibly change the controls from AWD to the 4x4 switch setup just by adding that switch or is it more in dept than that? Anyone delve into this?

It's much more in depth than that. In order to use touch switch 4wd with a V8 you have to gather alot of parts and do some custom wiring. Now you can go to manual 4wd with the V8 simpler than the electrical version. Search BW4406 swap for info on it.
