AWD vs 4 wd tranny's?? Need help quick!! please

We have a 96 AWD and we can buy a 98 4 wd tranny. I know they are the same 4r70w trans. but I assume the transfer cases are different, at least the activation process of the transfer case. Can we take the 4wd transfer case off and just slip our awd transfer case back on? Is is that simple?

Need to know asap so we can go buy it.

you want a manual 4406 tranfercase from a 97-98 F150 so you get the right speed sensor

you are going to need driveshafts from certain expeditions and you'll probably need them shortened

you'll also need to hammer part of the floor to make it fit and cut a hole for the shifter as well as bend the gas tank bracket

other than that, yeah slip it off slip it on, remember to put anti seize in your transfercase bolts as they're steel bolt in aluminum


ALSO you need to swap the speed sensor gear if you are using stock size tires. A 22 tooth is what you need, but noone sells it so you need to get a 21 tooth and this will leave you 1-2mph off
