AWD vs 4WD any opinions?

Of these two options which is better and why? There have been times with my Expedition when I wanted to put in 4WD so I know its there vs AWD when it might slip at first. this is for a 2000 explorer.

Is AWD good for mountain stuff and snow?

Great for snow... Mountain stuff... Depends on how hardcore you want to wheel... If you're okay doing stocker trails and moderatly harder stuff then AWD is fine... But if you're into rockcrawling and hard core, you'll want to have 4lo...

With the AWD system it won't "slip at first". It actually reacts to slippage almost instantly. Alot faster than the auto 4x4 on the v6 explorers.
