Axle code 43

My truck has an axle code of 43, which in my book states its the ford conventional axle with 3.08 ratio.

I was out in the snow today and noticed that when hitting the accelerator BOTH rear wheels were looking for traction. I thought this axle did not have traction lock, or am I confused about what traction lock is. I figured that only one rear wheel got power not both on this axle.

Can someone help me understand this.

You have an open differential, which means both wheels will always have the same amount of torque. Both of your wheels were probably on snow and therefore spun with the same amount of torque. If one wheel is on pavement and the other is on snow, the wheel on the snow would spin with little torque and would give the other wheel on pavement with less torque as well.

Jack one of the rear tires off the ground and try to spin it with e-brake off and truck in 'N'. If you can spin it freely you dont have Trak-Lok, if you cant then you do.

Trak-Loks use clutches (sp?) and friction to transfer power between the wheels. The previous owner may have installed one??
