I actually bought 2 rack and pinion from Detroit Axle, one for my mountaineer and lincoln ls, they are still doing fine. Not sure about their wheel bearings but they just probably refurb it with china quality bearings. There's still something to be desired about their quality control but I don't think their rack and pinion are shabby, it could be leaking by now and vibrating terribly.
I also bought the GMB front wheel bearings and they are still doing OK for several years, I could bought 2 of those for the price of 1 motorcraft or skf. fronts are a piece of cake, I could do it every year if they fail. I also have a mevotech ball joints (upper) on my mountaineer which i believe was more than 60k miles and no signs of failing. I also got a piece of crap SKF rear axle seal which leak just after 2 years of use.. now using motorcraft seal and see how it goes.
I also installed strut-tek on my rears (from primechoice auto) and it's been there for several years without any issues too so I ordered front wheel hubs and they messed up the shipping (they just put it in box without any protection, so it arrived banged up, that sums of their quality control) that ended my relationship with them (that's where I ended up ordering the GMB front wheel hub/bearing)
I also bought a timken rear pinion seal just last week and it's nowhere the quality and design of motorcraft seal, same goes with the unknown brand on the output shaft seal on my mustang.. I'm looking at which of those seal go first.
I also bought duralast front wheel bearings on my lincoln continental and they have been very good for several years (made in mexico) but their duralast ball joints and sway bar end links are pieces of crap, they only last shy of 2 years and start to squeak..
we could probably start a new thread on everybody's experience with some brands we used instead of OEM or dealer only parts. I know majority of the sensors and electronic stuff should be motorcraft only IMO.
i tend to buy chinese made (what is made in USA nowadays) first and see how it goes instead of spending much money on dealer markup. if it fails, lesson learned.
