- 2013 Explorer Limited FWD
The wife has been wanting to trade out of her 2011 Ecoboost Platinum for some time now, so a short visit to Mac Haik Ford in Houston took care of that. Her Platinum was a joy to own: in 53,000 miles of driving it the only repairs necessary was a fuel door assembly, oil changes and tires. It runs like a scalded dog and was absolutely great, but at age 63, she was ready for something a little easier to get into that had a climate controlled cargo area.
So enter the new Explorer. It's a Limited FWD with, as far as I know, every option on it. She loves it! She is a gadget type person and all the bells and whistles on this new car enthuse her. This is the second week with this car and she has mastered the Ford My Touch and everything else it has to offer. The dealer actually called her back to spend some time with their "telematics" expert and he was amazed at how well she had familiarized herself with the electronics! So, no MFT complaints here! She is very pleased with all the options and choices it gives her.
She is also pleased with the vehicle itself, the way it handles, brakes and rides. It is quite a bit more nimble than her 4X4 truck and it is so much easier to park. Fits in the garage too, which is the part I like! Everything on it has worked beautifully and the ride is composed on just about any pavement it is on. Believe it or not her favorite two options on the Explorer are the automatic high beams and the blind spot mirrors - they work flawlessly and make driving this thing in the dark or inclement weather a breeze. The second tank of gas has yielded 22 mpg and although the Explorer doesn't have the power of her old Ecoboost truck, it gets around just fine. She nearly got a ticket last Friday!
Seems this forum has a lot owners that have had problems with their cars and , quite frankly I was a little concerned, but then again forums concerning the Ecoboost F150's are loaded with complaints too, and until two weeks ago I had two of them sitting in my driveway (I drive and '11 FX4 Ecoboost). What's going on in those forums never happened at my house; my FX4 so far has been problem free; no repairs necessary, it's fast, and the fuel consumption is better than the EPA estimated it would be.
I suspect this new Explorer will be a good car as well - granted it only has 1200 miles on the clock but it has been great so far and my wife is very pleased with her purchase. I just wanted to post this as a positive note about the Ford Explorer.
Cheers!
