backspacing?

okay okay... sorry to bring this topic up again... but.. i searched... no answers ...okay... soooooo...less backspacing = wider stance/track width??? i want a wider look.. and really would like to ditch my stock 15x7 rims... im looking at rock krawler 15x8's with probably 31" bfg's but what backspacing should i get? ive seen 3.75" and less than that too...also... what is the stock backspacing for a first gen. wheel??? any input would be great!!!! thanks!!!!

3.75 is the best for the explorer..... the stock i beleive is mroe then that....

i used 15x8x4.50 backspacing on my truck... this is what it looks like

the higher the number the less it sticks out

its the distance between the back of the wheel and where the lug studs go... not sure of the correct terminalogy

So offset/backspacing is what determines the lip? (Or vice versa...)
