My trucks check engine light came on tody and it came back as insuficiant flow in cat. converter bank 1. so i asume this means my cats are bad. i dont have the cash to put out right now for new ones:thumbdwn: so i was thinking just taking them out and weld up a strait pipe for a few months until i have some cash or find out which of the two cats are bank one and just remove that one. i just cant take the vibration i get from it, it rattles the whole truck. its a 96 4.0 4x4 what do you guys think

Bank One is the passenger side.

I suggest checking the inexpensive fixes first. I don't trust the diagnostics blindly as they can be wrong and all you are doing is throwing parts at the problem and hoping it is the fix. It could be something as simple as a bad spark plug wire or fouled spark plug. From there it could be a coil issue, bad O2 sensor etc. Eliminate the simple, least expensive, things first.

My nephew's T-Bird with a 4.6L was throwing off a code and he was getting ready to replace the catalytic converter at the suggestion of a mechanic. I told him to check the simple stuff first and it turned out to be corrosion on one plug wire where it connected to the spark plug! He decided to change the plugs and wires for less than $50 (he didn't even need to do this) and the car runs like new again.
