I recently started getting a noise in my right front wheel that only occurs when I put my brakes on at lower speeds say 20mph on down, the slower the vehicle is going the louder the nose. It sounds like rubber grating on rubber in an out of round pattern as the tire spins. I also get a nasty creaking when stopping and starting. Strangest thing as the caliper is metal on metal, cannot figure out why it sounds like rubber on rubber and only when the brakes are on and slowing down.

Checked the ball joint and it seemed tight, also handles bumps well and does not make any strange noises. The above situation only occurs when I put on the brakes, otherwise things are normal. Front brakes are relatively new less than a year old. I checked the caliper to see if it was tight and no problems.

I thought this was the end link bushings failing so I replaced them but no fixy. I am thinking it has to either be a wheel bearing issue or ball joint but there is no evidence for the ball joint, seems really tight to me.

My vehicle is a 4wd Sport edition with 197k mi, I believe only the left front wheel bearing has been changed and the right is original. It does not make the classic whirring noise at highway speed like the other did before I replaced it, so I don't think it is the wheel bearing.

Any tips or ideas on where or what to look for?

Thanks

Any takers?

I checked it out an all seems well, rotors are tight as are the calipers, nothing in the way.
