I installed my performance module from motorvation. After several atempts the explorer started and wouldn't idle. I took out the module and the explorer started right up. Does this mean I have a bad chip? Anyone ever had anything like this happen before?

I am not familiar with this unit. Is it ordered by computer box code for your truck?

the company didn't ask for a computer code, just year/make/model/engine/auto. I'm going to try to install it again tomorrow. This time I'm going to manually crank up the idle so I can drive it around a little while. I'm hoping that the computer just needs to relearn the new curve.

The computer won't "re-learn" anything. By putting another program into the computer or "flashing" it you rewrite the "hard drive." Think of it as a bunch of excel spreadsheets with if-then statements in them. Each one has a calculation for different levels of fuel to be delivered at certain rates and temperatures of air coming into the engine as told by the MAF and AITS. Th calculation tells the injectors how much fuel to deliver at the given rates. After the combustion has occured, the O2 sensors anylizes the gases left in the exhaust to tell the computer if it was right or not. Then the computer adjusts accordingly. Therefore the computer will do what that chip tells it to as far as those "spreadsheets" are concerned. I would contact the company and let them know your issue before using the chip. You could seriously damage your engine.

This wasn't by chance one of those $1 ebay chips was it?

the chip was about $190 and plugs into the port on the compter
