ball hitch question

what size thread hole do i need? a 3/4, 7/8, or 1 inch? my explorer is in the shop so i can't measure it. any one know? Also i'll be ordering a D-Ring so i'll need the pin size so it'll be snug in there. the d-ring will go threw the ball hitch hole.

Are you talking about a bumper mounted hitch, or do you have a frame mounted hitch, class 3 or 4...If its thru the bumper, you will need a 3/4" shafted ball.
