Does Anybody know the size of the ball joint nut for the explorer? It looks pretty big I say around 18mm or so? I don't have any 1/2" sockets and can't afford to buy a new set.

Thanks

Your talking about the one that is on the bottom of the spindle right?

Yes sir......

Thats alot larger than 18mm. Its either 1 1/16 or 1 1/8

ball joint nut

you can also buy a single socket at almost any autop-arts store or home improvement warehouse (Lowes or Homedepot)
measure the nut with a cresent wrench (poor mans calipers) and measure with a tape or ruler (use metric side)
crude but it works!

I think the one on my d44 was a 1 1/18 inch socket. I didn't have a socket either, but a trip to Menards, and 10-15 bucks later I had a breaker bar AND a socket both with lifetime gaurentee's and made right here in the USA :)

I don't feel like droping the coin for a big ass set either haha

Probably a bit late for this but.. on my 95 they were 24mm. I replaced with NAPA BJs and they came with a new, bigger, 27mm castle nut. Also the tie-rod end castle nuts were 21mm, stock & aftermarket, and the tie-rod end jam nut was 18mm IIRC.
