i was checking my ball joints by jacking up the truck and they didnt feel bad at all but i was getting alot of clunking in the front end... it turns out that jacking the truck up by the frame and letting the supsension droop binds up the ball joints and puts them at different angles than they go down the road at. so they didnt feel bad when doing the vertical shake until i jacked it up and did not let the suspension droop... then there was plenty of play... next time you jack it up by the frame look at the angle it puts the upper ball joint at...
