hello, here is the issue with 2001 sport track 4.0 sohc auto.
Here is the situation, the truck idles rough, so pulled po171 /174 found several issues, pvc hose split, maf, we also pulled the intake replaced the intake gaskets as well (One Peice intake).., the trim on bank 1 is 25% approx 8% on bank 2 after its warm, we did a cly balance test on the scanner, it shows miss fires number 5 cly, it will run there a few min then change to number 6 stop misfiring on 6 after a few min will jump back to 5 cly the stop on number 5 back to 6 (new plugs wires).. we checked fuel psi, 65 psi.. both o2s jump from 800 all the way down to below 200.. i sprayed carb cleaner in the intake both 02s jump up to 800, if i rev the engine the trim on both banks go down to 0% +or-..
The Baro is 156 approx 28hg, we even swapped both of the 02s just to see if the the condition change sides, nothing changed.. what are we missing? also the vac gauge shows 21 in of vac .. i don't think im forgetting any info if i am i apologize cuz im at home going off mem.. this thing seems to have a vac leak on bank one.. but we can not find it.. we sprayed TB cleaner, carb cleaner water while watching the trims, no change. also th PCV hose will suck shut at the elbow ( a new NAPA elbow) it has a new pcv also, with the pcv unhooked from the bank 2 Valve Cover but connected to the hose the intake it will still suck shut.. so i think the baffle in VC is fine... this thing runs so much better now then when it came, but bank 1 still doesn't seem right.. the vac gauge shows good vac 21in, so i don't think its timing? any other suggestions? bad cat? Valves? ect? after all of this work the trim on bank one is at 14% now.. bank 2 is at -/+ 5% drove it for 20-30 min no mil, the fuel psi is 65ish.. it does bounce 1 psi or so.. also seems the fuel inj were replaced at one time.. these inj are blue? i thought they were supposed to be orange, also we ohmed them out 5 pizza 6 are approx 17.3-17.9 while all the others were in the 16s.. this thing does run so much better then it did, but i know there is something still wrong.. doing a cly balance text it shows 5 pizza6 misfiring but not at the same time, 5 will miss for a while then jump to 6 stay there for a while, then jump back to 5.. but will not miss at the same time.. .. this thing has me stumped.. egr works.. iac seems ok, tps seems ok.. if the timing was bad on bank 1, would the vac gauge show it? or a bad cat? dont think its a 02 cuz i swapped bank 1 with bank 2 no change..
anything i may have missed??
Thanks
Don

after some more testing on this pos ford, seems the pcm is at fault.. time for a beer

why bad PCM?

What makes you think that the PCM is bad? When there were multiple vacuum leaks it adjusted the fuel trims to compensate. When it could not adjust further is set the diagnostic trouble codes. Your trims change to OK when going from idle to mid-range RPMs.

Your fuel pressure seems to be OK. Your O2 sensor outputs are within range. Have you tried adding fuel injector cleaner to your fuel tank? I suggest Techron.

well spent the afternoon with a ford tech, after several tests.. he confirmed the pcm was bad.. he also admitted it was odd be can happen..

it has something to do with the way the 5 and 6 cly were showing a mis-fire.. the way they were swapping places.. he did a few test and confirmed the pcm had a fault
