Hello,

What would be the typical battery life for V6 Explorer 2005, that only does 10,000 km a year.

There is starting problem, where the truck seems to be chocking for air (for lack of better words) in the first few minute, and the RPM needle goes up and down.

But after I rev, two minute later all is fine and the RPM needle settles.
So I'll get the air filter changed and the Battery which is 4 years old.

I was trying to save on Battery, but am inclined to change it.

Any input will be appreciated.
Thanks

I had a very similar problem with 1991 Ford Explorer when it had about 144k miles on it. Unfortunately the dealer misdiagnosed it several times before finally figuring out what it was. Knowing that this is an older generation Explorer and not identical to yours, the symptoms were the same. After replacing quite a few parts, etc., it was found to be a sensor, but I cannot recall the name of the sensor, maybe engine coolant temperature sensor, or something like that. What made it difficult was that it was not throwing a code, but after extensive money spent and work, that's what it was, some sort of faulty sensor. Thankfully, they gave me a large refund. I wish you the best, but I don't think it has to do with your battery or air filter.

If you can do the battery, I'd do it. And check the cables, too. A low battery will cause all kinds of headaches and after 4 years, you're on the back end of the battery life. And severe weather (hot or cold) will certainly hasten it.

I did not take into account a cold climate, perhaps the battery may help.
