bearing blew... again.

Haha o well we also found that the pinion got chewed up so im buying a new axle tomorrow got one for $250 lined up just going to replace the whole deal instead of buying pieces. Do you know if I can just buy 4.56 gears for the rear and not the front and get by? Or would that screw everything up? I am running 33's on stock gears which I'm assuming is why they broke. But I dont want to spend the money on the front because I want to sas soon. And I dont wheel enough right now to be using 4wd.

Just take the axles and driveshaft out/off.then rebuild it whenever you get new gears, save your $250...yes you can run just rear 4.56 but you wont have 4x4 and again you should take the driveshaft off just in case

if you are going to run 456's the need to be in both the front and rear if you are going to put it in 4x4/

well the only problem is this car is my DD so i have to have it asap. I'm thinking of getting a 2nd gen rear end instead. would i not be able to run the 4.10 gears in 4x4?

You can drive it just fine with no front axles or drivshaft.you can gut the whole front even take the pig off and still drive it..

No you can not drive it in 4x4 unless the gears match....whatever is in the rear HAS to been in the front to use 4x4.for 33s your want 4.56 anyways....

Ok sorry for my mix ups and everything I only work on my car in small portions. Take back everything I have said till now. I looked at both my gears this morning and I have 4.56 in front and rear. Woohoo! I thought they were stock according to the previous owner. So im just going to be replacing the gears in the rear. So my new question for you is with 4.56 I know that's good for 33's but how large of tire can I go with those gears? Previously looking at posts I have seen you can go up too 35's. Yes or no? Again sorry for my back and forth decsicions and thoughts this is the first time on any of my vehicles I have broken into the diffs so I'm new with this. But I thank you jd for all your help and the help of everyone else chiming in.

If you go with anything larger than 33's you run into issues with the front end. Lockers or LS's will only stress the drive train more if you go larger. 35's are considered the MAX, but I would consider 33's the practical max to maintain a safe and reliable front end.

If I recall correctly, 4.56's with 35's will be like 3.55's with stock tires.

Its all on how you drive.I run big ass 36x14.50 with 4.88s and aussie locked.only thing I've broke is a hub which is stock.I left them stock so they would break first...you can run 35s on 4.56 its just not ideal.
