My belt seems to be intermittently squealing. Does
the below picture mean that the belt has gotten too
loose ? In other words, is the middle of the three
marks supposed to line up with the long arrow ?

Regarding to this post

the serpentine belt is not too loose and the tensioner mooves the right way.
The belt looks good, without any cracks or unusual wear patterns.
What you don't know is the spring tension of the tensioner, maybe the spring inside is tired?
Sometimes the tensioners went bad, cause the tensioner arm get misaligned, get much play
or the arm whobbles while in action.
Are you shure the squealing comes from the belt? Seems that the belt is not too old.
Has the squealing a relation ship to outside temperature?
A intermittent squealing may come from dry/worn alternator/idler pulley bearings,
sometimes the AC clutch could cause noise when slipping.
Maybe the belt slips over sometimes cause there is some debris in pulley grooves.

If parts are old you may change them.

Good luck!

It does not, per se, seem to be related to outdoor temperature. But, it definitely squeals less
on average when the vehicle is warm, versus cold.

If you find some time and fortunately have a warm garage,
disengage the tensioner and take the belt off. Fan shroud must be take off.
I am shure you will find the squealing source by inspecting parts,
rotating altenator by hand and so on.

there's a TSB, belt chirp if ac clutch engage

On the other hand i have never had a squealing noise caused by the belt,
no matter if cold/warm weather.

Installed new belt, part # 6pk2169.
It is actually looser than the old belt (??),
per the markings on the tensioner. We'll
see if somehow stops the intermittent squeal
by simply being a new belt...
