For the price, you can get a complete Flowmaster kit with all the necessary piping and clamps for $180 - best bang for the buck. Borla is more expensive (double the price), but it is stainless steel and guaranteed for life.

Best??

I can't really say what's best, but I've had a Dynomax Super Turbo from JCW. ($25) and a custom 2 1/2" mandrel bent pipe all installed by a local shop for ($75) for a total of $100. The shop fit the pipe much higher and tighter than the OEM pipe. I like the sound and it doesn't sound like a rice rocket! Supposedly D-Max has the lowest flow resistance of the common aftermarket mufflers. I didn't want to spend the bucks for a Borla, or even a Flower cat-back 'cause that's $250 to $500. installed, and they aren't as up and clear as mine is. I've seen too many exhaust systems become trail trash to want to spend very much money on something that will definitely get munched. If you're a serious offroader that likes to do black diamond trails, you'll probably wipe out your factory style exhaust (i did). Truckhaven taught me that lesson about 7 years ago!

I got a magnaflow turbo muffler and custom 2.25 piping installed for $200. Warranty as long as I own the truck: free replacement even if it's my fault on the trail. I like this shop ;)

Magnaflow

Alec,

My muff shop is reccomending an M-flo for my 2K F-250 SD. I use this truck as the tractor when I transport the Exp. I'd like to know how you like the M-flo, the shop guy says that it will have a nice mellow sound, (quiter than my D-max on the Exp), but still give a decent performance boost. I think listening to the constant pitch growl of a D-max for long stretches of interstate could get pretty tedious.

I really like the Magnaflow. The sound is very nice and mellow. It's loudest @ 1800 and above 3500 RPM, so highway cruising isn't bad. The sound does get deeper every mod I do b/c of the increased airflow. I immediately felt the performance boost when I got it. I didn't go larger than 2.25" because that's the diameter of the cat exit, why go larger? It should sound really nice on your pickup, just match the cat exit diameter.

I posted this somewhere else... Midas has a new one out called the Raven. It is supposed to be better than the Flowmaster. I don't know how much the Flow's are , but these two are $118 & $138, depending on how loud you want it.

what if i just buy the muffler and weld it up myself with stock tubing or will that not really make a difference in flow

A muffler buy itself will make a difference. However, you have a few problems if you do it yourself: THe new muffler isn't going to be the same size as the old one, so will need a pipe extension from the cat. and 2, you will need to weld on the hangers, as most mufflers don't already have hangers. I believe the stock piping is 2". So going from 2 to 2.25 will make a difference. Also, if your pipe is anything like mine was, it's time for a new one anyway. The new pipe cost me an extra $20 or $30.

I want to do the exhaust mod next weeked and need some thoughts. I'm Looking for the best bang for the buck . I want a nice sounding exhaust and improved performance. Also I want something that is loud when I step on it, just installed a Cherry Bomb on my friends Olds and all new pipe and I "thought" that was going to be loud, they aren't at all.

So it's between:
Dynomax Super Turbo (25$) + New Pipe
Magnaflow Turbo Muffler (?) + New Pipe
Flowmaster Cat-back (173$)

I've only heard the Flowmaster so I'm going with your guys suggestions.

Thanks

Just got a Magnaflow for $123.14 included custom pipes. Sounds great and runs better (at least in my head).

to me the dynomax sounds to be the best at least costwise or maybe the gibson aftercayt for ease of the DIYer
