- 96 xlt rare 5 spd 4WD
I am still debating between buying a v8 awd and swapping in a manual trans or just rebuilding my 1996 ohv 4.0 4wd 5 speed xlt.
I love my truck but it needs an engine. Manual XLTs are hard to find, I think my final answer is to put in a mild performance rebuilt.
Bored (possibly with early pistons to bump compression), 422 cam and valve train, headers, cold air intake, and best heads I can find.
I may run a super charger in the future.
I hear the stock heads are all cracked, not to be reused, but the 95tm heads flow better. Allied on ebay sells rebuilt/repaired 95tms. New heavy duty 98tm casting are available at a good price.
So I guess my real question is. do I get the rebuilt 95tms or new heavy duty 98tms from Odessa?
Any advice or 3rd options would be welcome also.
Thanks in advance,
