I just installed a decent head unit in my truck: Pioneer DEH P4100 and I would like to upgrade the stock speakers now. What are the best speakers I can get w/out spending more than 200 bucks? I am looking for strong bass w/out a subwoofer box and clear treble. Thanks.

The Infinity Kappa's are a really good speaker. Check them out they are in the crutchfield catalog. I believe they are $149 for the pair. I'm sure if you shop around you could get them cheaper.

I got 4 RockfordFosgate 5x7 punch speakers for $120 through a friend of mine (wholesale). That probably doesn't help you much, but look around.

If you go to ubid.com and search for rockford fosgate you should be able to find the 5x7's for $59 a pair. They sound pretty good run by a headunit, but if you add more power then they are really loud and produce pretty good bass.

If you are going to be paying retail prices, you will be able to get Pioneer 5x7s for all four door under $200. Don't expect that you are going to get bass of a subwoofer though. A decent mild bass and if you get three way 5x7's, you'll get nice highs (Wait I'm not talking about drugs!)

If you are going for value I would say go Infinity Reference. You can get either 6x8 or 5.25" for less than $100 at crutchfield which means you should be able to find them $15-$25 cheaper somewhere else. Try http://www.tmselectronics.com They have really good prices on high quality stuff.

I have the Pioneer 180w max 3-way 6x8's in all four doors. got them for 90 bucks a pair at a local electronics store. When people ride in my truck and I crank it...they ask "were's the sub?"! It's not as good as a sub, but the bass is almost as good. I think the treble is very clear. They are powered by a Panasonic CQ-DF88 (40watts per channel).

I had the Pioneer 3-ways and loved the tight bass they produced but it wasn't very loud. The highs over powered them way too much. I still have the Pioneer's in the rear but I have the head unit set so they only play highs and midrange, no sub-bass

What if I keep the factory receiver and change the speakers?? Because I love the factory receiver but I hate the speakers, they're only mid-ranges, they have no bass whatsoever. I guess Ford people think that a subwoofer will cure the problem but in my opinion, no! So...I'm going to get a set of new speakers (front and back) probably later this year. BTW, I have the JBL system. Thanks

If you like the factory head unit then the best thing to do for better sound is get your four speakers, then get a four channel amp with speaker level inputs to give them more power. The factory unit does not have enough power to make new speakers really loud or produce bass without distortion.

I would definltely reccommend the Pioneer 6x8's that I have (see below in my signature for the model number). I got them at Best Buy on sale for $95 a pair, they are a perfect fit, no trimming needed at all. Sound great and the best thing is that I will never blow them with the receiver I have, assuming I don't add an amp!

Ok, I read this quote yesterday and when I went to my truck with the pioneers I double-checked, and, well, umm yeah...they are definetly LOUD!!! Maybe they just go good with my head unit, but Pioneer 6x8 kick much a-double-s!!!
