Well, I may not be the best person to ask, but I lean towards the suspension lift ( Might as well go 5.5" )and at least 33's. I have 170K miles now and it runs better with the lift than it did new. Of course I can't remeber how it ran new, but that's not the point. I love the way it handles now. I'm thinking of adding a body lift and bigger tires for even more clearance. Maybe 35's, 36's or 38's. If you hit the trails, get the lift. You;ll need clearance. If you want looks then you can get by with a body lift.

Good Luck with your choice.

Mine has the 5.5" lift, due to various complications (about 75 miles each day, rising cost of gas, the mis-alignment of the vehicle (including constant wandering all around the road) I no longer use my vehicle as a daily driver... that neither here nor there though, with some fix-ups to the Explorer it would probably be just fine... I drove it to California once, Tuttle Creek Kansas, Moab twice, and can't complain about the ride either time (other then the obvious lack of pwoer int he mountains) :)

Having driven mine stock for quite some time and now driving it with a suspension lift, I'd say it drives pretty good! The only noticable thing is the top-heavyness(if thats a word..hehe), if I go around corners too fast. But with stronger shock(later)that should be cured/helped. Matt and I have both have the 'wandering' thing and I'll put a steering stabilizer to hopefully dampen that.
I just got back from a 6hr trip this past weekend and it was fine. The ride is a tad harsher than stock, but expected from the stiffer springs/leafs. I know the body lift is cheaper and suspension is mucho more, but I think you'd like the suspension lift a lot better( looks and handling). There's my 2 coins in the well!

Oh Matt,
