what is the easiest way to do this without rewiring it i am thinking running a jumper wire from the fuse panel to the outlet

I think you'd have to run the power wire of the outlet to the ignition wire. Easiest thing to do would run that power wire to something that get power when you start, like the radio.

ya that would work but i was thinking tapping into a fuse for the radio or something and jumping it to the outlet side of the fuse for it. is there anything i am overlooking this is for a radar detector that draws 2-3 amps

I think you'd have to cut the wire, not piggyback it, to the ignition. I wired in an outlet for my radar detector and put the power wire in the radio fuse slot.

i just wired mine up to to dome light wires that run up the a piller, and ran the wire across just above the rear view mirror, if i forget to turn it off mine turns off after about 2 hours?

If you want switched power you will need to re-wiring the AUX. As such it would be a piece of cake to do by simply adding a 12v automotive relay. In the picture below you would need to cut the power source to the AUX and connect the ends (one to term 30 power side, and the other to term 87 AUX or load side). Terminal 86 is to ground and terminal 85 yellow wire will be to any wire which is hot (12v) when the key is on. Charlies suggestion works ok, but will cause a parasitic battery drain on your battery (when not running). If I'm reading your post correctly you want to use the AUX power and not permanetly wire the detector in. That being said you could always tap into the acc/on wire for the radio, but if you use the aux for any device using more power it will start to blow fuses.

Radio Snax sells a Auto-Sensing power adapter. This unit plugs into your ligher and has its own lighter jack on the end. It detects when the engine is on and turns on power to the cigarette lighter jack. When the engine turns off, it shuts off power to your accessories after about 2 seconds. Works very well, I use one with my radar detector in my Ex.
