Hi there everyone.. Newbie here.. I've done a search and looks like shocks help the ride alot.. So here's my question.. My 81 year old dad has a 96 XLT 4 door 2X4 that rides real stiff.. My lifted Cherokee, 85 F150 and my ex-wifes 91 XL Explorer are all Caddy's compared to his 96. I called the ford dealer and his has the basic suspension, no handling package.. It has fairly new shocks also, less than 10k miles and tire pressure is at 35lbs all around.. Is there anything else that can be done to soften it up some?
Thanks
Keith

Its going to get expensive but I would recomend the edelbrock shocks with IAS, you can check out explorerexpress.com they have some great suspension upgrades. I installed add-a-leaf springs in the back yesterday and now it handles so much better. I havent experienced and wheel hop from the rear end since.

The ride with the Edelbrock shocks is rough as a cob. Yes, I have had them and dumped them in favor of Rancho 9000x.

For a soft ride stick with stock type shocks.

Good luck....

Thanks for the replies...I went out and check his tire pressure and noticed that the sticker on the door only called for 26lbs.. So I lowered it to 30psi and we'll see if that helps.. May have to do the R9000 shocks, but hope not.

Isn't that 26psi the reason X's flip?

I think so. That's why I set them at 30psi..

ford recommends 30psi for 2nd Gen X's (one's that potentially had those Firestones on it). They originally stated 26psi in order to compensate for the poor ride quality from the stock suspension.
