So I've done some searching and it seems the high and low beams for 3rd gen Explorers are seperate bulbs. That leads to the question what do you guys with HID's do about high beams? I have a 9007 Bi-xenon kit on my Cobra and love it. Is there a way to wire these to work on the explorer? I've seen some kits that have an HID bulb for the low and seperate halogen for high, but I don't really like those.

if you have a 3rd gen explorer you're better off leaving the high beam alone and just getting an hid for the low beam....you could either retrofit a projector in the housing like i did for mine or get a rebase bulb kit which i really dont like but its easy and quick hook up....

Huh?? The high beam uses a completely seperate bulb so there is no need for the Bi-Xenon kits on the 3rd gen. The low beam uses a 9006 and the high is 9005

So I could get an HID kit for the low beams and retain the factory high beams?

Yes. You also have the option, however, of also getting a 9005 kit and using it to replace your stock high beams.

Do the low beams stay on while the high beams are illuminated? I know switching HID's on and off can ruin them.

I think I found the answer to my own question, it looks like the lows do stay on while the high's are on. So I'll probably just get the 9006 HID's for the low, and pick up a set of Silverstars with the highs. Thanks for the help fellas!!

Is there a certain kit you guys recommend or is most popular on these forums?

thats why u retro the headlight with a single projector or just use a reg hid kit...you get better output with a projector
