Hey folks, im new to this site and jus bought my rig 2 weeks ago, did my homework but cannot find a thread with the same issue i have.

history.....04 explorer 4L, A4WD w/controltrac. with 75miles. at 20k it was in for the tranny TSB, friction modifier, solenoids etc. all other gear fluids original i believe.

if im sitting still and put it in reverse or drive, wheels 'straight' on slippery road, and i hit the gas enough that the tires should spin, i hear an odd sound for half a second. it sounds sorta like a bicycle chain thats too tight. i've tried it with controltrac on and off, and in 4x4 high. it does the same thing. if i drive it easy from stop, its fine. most ppl wouldnt notice it cause u have to give it half the peddle.

i hope someone can enlighten me a bit.
thanks.

Try checking the u joints in the d/shaft, one could be dry and cause a noise like that.

thx for reply...

i was messing around more today with it. and i've discovered it will do it on non slippery sections too....while wheels are turned also.

so basically same thing i described, but add in while on dry pavement and while wheels cut. does it in most scenarios.

ugh.....
